Ensure you can handle just about any emergency aboard with this well-stocked, waterproof kit that’s also compact and easily stowable.
Stowing a first-aid kit on board is not a Coast Guard requirement, but it’s a smart move for any boater. But if the same kit sits in a compartment over several seasons, the minor emergency that finally has you opening it could reveal a mess of saturated, moldy bandages. That’s because most first aid kits are designed for life on dry land don’t fare well aboard damp boats.
Boaters have a new friend. The Uncharted First Aid Plus kit is packed in a 600D welded tarpaulin completely waterproof shell. Inside are 92 pieces, everything from bandages to antibacterial wipes (and an instruction guide). Stowing the kit is easy thanks to a “Mollie” style quick-attachment system with removable hook-and-loop closure.
We’re fans of this kit already, but Uncharted takes this one to the next level. Along with all the expected medical aid items the company also outfits the kit with some critical survival gear: flashlight, Mylar blanket, chemical light sticks, water-resistant matches, and even a multi-tool with needle-nose pliers, wire cutters, blades, and screwdrivers. And just in case you need to pack specialty medical gear like an inhaler or EpiPen, there’s also an open section set aside for stowing additional personal items. It’s amazing what’s packed into this compact, stowable kit.
Dimensions are 8 x 6.6 x 3.8 inches, and the weight is 2 pounds, 15 ounces. Price: $139.
